Peleg

Son of Eber and father of Reu, whose name means ‘division.’ Scripture records that in Peleg’s days ‘the earth was divided,’ likely referring to the confusion of languages and scattering of peoples at the Tower of Babel. His lifetime marks the transition from a unified humanity to the diverse nations that would populate the ancient world.

Where to read about Peleg

Genesis 10:25

Two sons were born to Eber: One was named Peleg, because in his days the earth was divided, and his brother was named Joktan.

Seventy nations branching from three sons. The human family spreads across the earth — and the story is about to narrow.

Genesis 11:16-19

When Eber was 34 years old, he became the father of Peleg. And after he had become the father of Peleg, Eber lived 430 years and had other sons and daughters. When Peleg was 30 years old, he became the father of Reu. And after he had become the father of Reu, Peleg lived 209 years and had other sons and daughters.

Humanity builds upward in defiance. God scatters them — and then quietly begins a new plan through one family line.
