Shelah

Son of Arphaxad and father of Eber, part of the post-flood patriarchal line from Shem to Abraham. Shelah faithfully carried forward the Semitic lineage through the early centuries after the flood. His place in the genealogy connects the immediate post-flood world to the ancestors of the Hebrew people.

Where to read about Shelah

Genesis 10:24

Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, and Shelah was the father of Eber.

Seventy nations branching from three sons. The human family spreads across the earth — and the story is about to narrow.

Genesis 11:12-15

When Arphaxad was 35 years old, he became the father of Shelah. And after he had become the father of Shelah, Arphaxad lived 403 years and had other sons and daughters. When Shelah was 30 years old, he became the father of Eber. And after he had become the father of Eber, Shelah lived 403 years and had other sons and daughters.

Humanity builds upward in defiance. God scatters them — and then quietly begins a new plan through one family line.
