When Eber was 34, he fathered Peleg.
Eber's name is particularly interesting because it may relate to the word 'across' or 'other side'—some scholars connect it to 'Hebrews,' meaning people from across the river. Peleg's name, meanwhile, means 'division,' and interestingly, his lifetime coincides with the Tower of Babel event, which divided humanity.

The name Peleg (פֶּלֶג, peleq) derives from פָּלַג (pālag, 'to divide'), and the Genesis narrative will explicitly connect it to the division of languages at Babel (cf. 10:25). This connects Peleg etymologically and conceptually to the Tower narrative—he is born during or after the scattering, making him emblematic of the divided world. Some chronological reconstructions place Peleg's generation contemporaneously with Babel, though the genealogy itself makes no temporal claims.
