Divided Kingdom · In the line to Jesus

Joash

also called Jehoash

The boy king of Judah who was rescued as an infant from his grandmother Athaliah's massacre of the royal family and hidden in the temple for six years by the priest Jehoiada. Crowned at age seven, Joash repaired the temple and followed the Lord as long as Jehoiada lived. After Jehoiada's death, Joash turned to idolatry and even ordered the murder of Jehoiada's son Zechariah, who prophesied against him. He was assassinated by his own servants.
