Ahaziah

also called Jehoahaz

Son of Joram and Athaliah, and king of Judah who reigned for only one year. Ahaziah followed the wicked ways of the house of Ahab, influenced by his mother Athaliah, who was a granddaughter of Omri king of Israel. He allied himself with King Joram of Israel and was killed by Jehu during Jehu's purge of Ahab's dynasty. His death left a power vacuum that his mother Athaliah exploited to seize the throne—the only woman to rule Judah. Matthew's genealogy skips Ahaziah, Joash, and Amaziah, likely because of their connection to the cursed house of Ahab.
