A righteous king of Judah who strengthened the nation through judicial reform, religious education, and military organization. He sent officials throughout the land to teach God’s law and established courts of justice in every city. Though generally faithful, Jehoshaphat’s alliance with wicked King Ahab of Israel through a marriage alliance brought trouble to his dynasty. When surrounded by a vast enemy coalition, he led the people in prayer and God delivered them through praise and worship rather than warfare.
