Son of Rehoboam and king of Judah who reigned briefly but demonstrated remarkable faith in a decisive moment. When vastly outnumbered by Jeroboam’s forces from the northern kingdom, Abijah stood on a mountain and declared God’s faithfulness to the Davidic covenant. God gave him a stunning victory, striking down 500,000 of Jeroboam’s troops. Despite this triumph of faith, Abijah’s reign was otherwise unremarkable, and he is noted for continuing the sins of his father.
