Divided Kingdom · In the line to Jesus

Amaziah

Son of Joash and king of Judah who began his reign well by executing his father's assassins—yet following the law of Moses in sparing their children. Amaziah achieved a great victory over Edom but foolishly brought back Edomite idols to worship. Emboldened by his military success, he challenged King Jehoash of Israel to battle and suffered a humiliating defeat. Jerusalem's walls were breached, and Amaziah was eventually assassinated in a conspiracy.
