Eleazar

Son of Eliud and father of Matthan, listed in the genealogy of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew. Eleazar lived in the generations just before the birth of Christ, when messianic expectation was growing throughout Israel. His name, meaning ‘God has helped,’ points to the divine faithfulness that sustained the Davidic line across a thousand years from David to Jesus.
