The official pleads, 'Sir, come down before my child dies.' He is not interested in a theology lesson right now. He just needs Jesus to save his son.
There is no pretense here, just a father's raw, unfiltered plea. And Jesus honors that kind of honesty.
The official speaks with the kind of urgency that only a parent facing the loss of a child can know.
He does not argue with Jesus or defend himself. He just says what every parent in his situation would say: please, before it is too late. And that honest desperation is exactly the kind of faith Jesus responds to.
The official's repeated plea (kurie, katabēthi, 'Sir/Lord, come down') uses the urgent temporal clause 'before my child dies' (prin apothanein to paidion mou). The switch from 'son' (huios) to 'child' (paidion) intensifies the emotional appeal.
Despite Jesus' rebuke, the official persists. His persistence is not faithlessness but the raw desperation of a parent, and his willingness to press on despite the rebuke shows the beginnings of genuine faith.
The official speaks again with increased urgency, cutting through the theological discussion to the emergency at hand.
The official does not engage in theological debate; he simply repeats his plea with greater urgency. His persistence in the face of Jesus' challenge demonstrates a faith that, while imperfect, is deeply genuine.
47When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and begged Him to come down and heal his son, who was about to die.

49“Sir,” the official said, “come down before my child dies.”
50“Go,” said Jesus. “Your son will live.”
51And while he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was alive.
