The moment Jesus and Peter got into the boat, the wind completely stopped. His presence changes everything, even the weather.
Whatever storm you're going through, inviting Jesus in changes the situation. He brings peace simply by being present.
Matthew narrates the immediate calming of the storm.
The storm that had raged all night ends the instant Jesus steps into the boat. His presence is the ultimate peace.
The cessation of the wind (ekopasen ho anemos) upon their entering the boat serves as a nature miracle within a nature miracle, confirming Jesus' authority over the elements.
The calming of the wind recalls the stilling of the storm in Matthew 8:26. The sequence of walking on water followed by wind cessation provides a double demonstration of cosmic authority.
The narrator describes the miraculous calming that follows.
As soon as Jesus and Peter climb into the boat, the storm stops. Creation itself responds to the presence of its Creator.
30But when he saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
31Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and took hold of Peter. “You of little faith,” He said, “why did you doubt?”
32And when they had climbed back into the boat, the wind died down.
33Then those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God!”
34When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret.
