Jesus' double question — 'Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?' (ti deiloi este; oupo echete pistin;) — rebukes cowardly fear (deilia) as incompatible with faith, implying they should have trusted his presence in the boat.

The rebuke reveals that the miracle's purpose extends beyond rescue to pedagogy: the disciples should have inferred from Jesus' sovereign rest that they were safe. 'Still' (oupo) implies ongoing failure to learn.
