Jesus said to them, “These are the words I spoke to you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms.” Luke 24:44 · Berean Standard Bible
Jesus told them, 'This is what I meant when I was still with you — everything written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms had to come true.'
The entire Old Testament — the Law, the Prophets, the Psalms — all of it was pointing to this moment. Every thread was woven toward Jesus.
Jesus ties together all of Scripture and shows it was always about Him.
He reminded them that nothing happened by accident. Moses wrote about Him. The prophets foretold Him. The psalms sang about Him. It was always the plan.
Jesus reminds them of His pre-crucifixion teaching that everything written about Him in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled.
The threefold division — Law, Prophets, Psalms (the first and largest book of the Writings) — represents the entire Hebrew Bible (Tanakh). The term dei ('must') again expresses divine necessity.
Jesus connects His resurrection to the fulfillment of the entire Hebrew canon.
Jesus frames the resurrection not as an isolated event but as the culmination of all Scripture. Every division of the Hebrew Bible pointed toward this fulfillment.
42So they gave Him a piece of broiled fish,
43and He took it and ate it in front of them.
44Jesus said to them, “These are the words I spoke to you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms.”
