Ghosts don't eat fish. Jesus was making a point — He was really, physically alive. This was no vision or hallucination.
Jesus eats the fish where everyone can see Him, settling the question once and for all.
He ate it right in front of them. No tricks, no illusions — just a risen Savior enjoying a simple meal with the people He loves.
Jesus takes the fish and eats it in their presence (Greek: enōpion autōn, 'before their eyes'), providing visible proof of His corporeal reality.
Eating in the presence of witnesses serves as definitive evidence against the ghost theory. In Jewish tradition, angels could appear to eat (cf. Tobit 12:19) but spirits could not.
Jesus eats the fish in full view of the disciples as physical proof of His resurrection.
This simple act of eating constitutes one of the strongest proofs of bodily resurrection in the Gospel accounts. The risen Jesus is no apparition — He consumes real food in real time.
41While they were still in disbelief because of their joy and amazement, He asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?”
42So they gave Him a piece of broiled fish,
43and He took it and ate it in front of them.
44Jesus said to them, “These are the words I spoke to you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms.”
45Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.
