While they were still talking about all this, Jesus Himself appeared right there among them and said, 'Peace be with you.'
Right in the middle of their excitement and confusion, Jesus showed up. His first word was 'peace' — exactly what their racing hearts needed.
Jesus suddenly appears in the room and speaks peace over His shaken followers.
No knock on the door, no warning — He was just there. And the first thing He said wasn't 'I told you so.' It was 'Peace.' That tells you everything about who He is.
While the Emmaus disciples are still speaking, Jesus Himself suddenly stands among the gathered group and pronounces the peace greeting (Greek: eirēnē hymin, 'peace to you').
The traditional Jewish greeting shalom takes on profound new meaning from the risen Christ — it is not merely a wish but a declaration of the eschatological peace accomplished through His death and resurrection.
The risen Jesus appears in the midst of the assembled disciples and offers His peace.
