Zacchaeus and the King
But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord, half of my possessions I give to the poor, and if I have cheated anyone, I will repay it fourfold.” Luke 19:8 · Berean Standard Bible
Zacchaeus stands up and declares: 'Lord, I'm giving half of everything I own to the poor, and if I've cheated anyone, I'll pay back four times as much.' His wallet follows his heart.
Nobody asked him to do this. This is what real transformation looks like — it changes how you handle your money. The rich ruler couldn't let go; Zacchaeus can't give it away fast enough.

Fourfold restitution matches the penalty for theft in Exodus 22:1 and Roman law. Giving half to the poor far exceeds any legal requirement. This response contrasts with the rich ruler who could not part with his wealth (18:22-23).
