This child will be God's own Son and the King that Israel had been waiting for for over a thousand years. The ancient promises to David are about to be fulfilled.
Gabriel reveals the child's extraordinary identity.
Every promise God ever made to David about an eternal King comes together in this one child. Mary is carrying the answer to a thousand years of prayers.
Gabriel declares the child will be megas (great), called Huios Hypsistou (Son of the Most High), and receive the thronos David (throne of David) from the Lord God.
The titles combine divine sonship (Son of the Most High) with Davidic kingship (throne of David), fulfilling the Davidic covenant of 2 Samuel 7:12-16 and the messianic prophecy tradition.
Gabriel describes the child's divine identity and royal destiny.
