The scholarly reading

Jesus grounds the life-giving power of feeding on Him in the intra-Trinitarian relationship: as the living Father (ho zōn Patēr) sent Him and He lives because of the Father, so the one feeding on Him will live because of Him.

Language and setting

This verse reveals the chain of life: Father to Son to believer. The life that flows to the believer through Christ originates in the Father, establishing a participatory model of salvation.

Voice

Jesus draws an analogy between His own relationship to the Father and the believer's relationship to Himself.

Significance

The life Jesus offers is not something He generates independently. It flows from the living Father through the Son to every believer. You are being invited into the very life-stream of God Himself.

58This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your fathers, who ate the manna and died, the one who eats this bread will live forever.”
