Jesus concludes the Bread of Life discourse by restating the typological contrast: unlike the manna-eating fathers who died, the one who eats this heavenly bread will live forever (zēsei eis ton aiōna).

Language and setting

This forms an inclusio with verse 49, bookending the discourse's central argument. The contrast between temporary manna and eternal bread encapsulates the entire Old Covenant to New Covenant transition.
