While the official was still on the road home, his servants met him with incredible news: his boy was alive and well.
Imagine the relief, the tears, the overwhelming gratitude. Every step of that sixteen-mile journey was an act of faith, and now it was confirmed.
The servants deliver the news that every parent prays for, confirming that Jesus' word has the power to heal across any distance.
He trusted a word, and now that word has become reality. His son is alive. The faith that made him walk away from Jesus without proof is now being rewarded with the most beautiful confirmation a father could receive.
The servants meet the official on the way with the news that his 'boy' (ho pais, a term of endearment) 'was alive' (zē). The present tense zē ('lives') matches Jesus' exact words, confirming the power of His spoken word.
