John 14:30, in plain English

Jesus says their time for talking is running short because the enemy is coming. But He adds: the enemy has nothing on Me. Satan has no power over Jesus.

Why it's here

This is reassuring in the face of what is about to happen. The cross may look like Satan winning, but Jesus goes into it completely free, completely willing, and completely in charge.

Where it sits in the story

The enemy is at the gate. But Jesus faces him with perfect calm. Satan has no claim on Him, no leverage, no power. Jesus goes to the cross not because evil defeated Him but because love chose it. The prince of this world meets someone he cannot touch.

The scholarly reading

Jesus notes that His time for speaking is short, as the 'prince of this world' (ho tou kosmou archōn) is coming. Yet Satan 'has no claim' (ouk echei ouden) on Jesus; He is morally sinless and under no dominion of evil.

Language and setting

The 'prince of this world' refers to Satan (cf. 12:31, 16:11). Satan's approach triggers the passion events, but Jesus asserts complete sovereignty: the enemy has no legal or moral hold on Him.

Jesus warns of the approaching adversary while affirming His own perfect innocence.

Significance

Jesus acknowledges that the prince of darkness is approaching but declares that Satan has absolutely no hold on Him. Jesus faces the cross not as a defeated victim but as a sovereign Lord who is sinless, free from any claim of evil, and willingly offering His life.
