On 'that day' (likely Pentecost or the broader post-resurrection era), the disciples will know (gnōsesthe) the mutual indwelling: Jesus in the Father, the disciples in Jesus, and Jesus in the disciples. This is a chain of intimate union.

Language and setting

The triple indwelling formula expands the Father-Son relationship to include believers. This participatory union is central to Johannine mysticism and later Christian theology of theosis/union with God.
