Mesopotamian texts frequently depict the gods establishing cosmic measurements — the Enuma Elish describes Marduk establishing the stars and their positions. The Hebrew Bible repurposes this mythology, insisting that Yahweh alone possesses the capacity for such cosmic architecture. The Vulgate's phrase 'quis eius modus est' (who knew its measure?) suggests an intensification: not merely 'who measured it?' but 'who comprehended its essential nature through measurement?'
