This is the core promise of Revelation. Everything John was shown points to this one reality: Jesus is coming back. And blessing doesn't mean comfort necessarily—it means wholeness and the right standing with God.

Language and setting

The churches were experiencing doubt and weariness—would Christ return? In what form? John's Jesus doesn't theorize about timing but calls for loyalty to the prophetic word itself, transforming hermeneutical fidelity into eschatological hope.

Significance

This echoes Jesus's words in Matthew 24:33 and Mark 13:29, but here the emphasis shifts from prediction to preservation. Blessed (makarios) language recalls the Beatitudes; John is reframing faithful interpretation of apocalyptic testimony as itself a form of righteousness, a stance of patient expectation.

5There will be no more night in the city, and they will have no need for the light of a lamp or of the sun. For the Lord God will shine on them, and they will reign forever and ever.

6Then the angel said to me, “These words are faithful and true. The Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent His angel to show His servants what must soon take place.”

7“Behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of prophecy in this book.”

8And I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had shown me these things.

9But he said to me, “Do not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God!”
