The wickedness goes all the way to murder—they kill the most defenseless people: widows, foreigners, and orphans.
You're now looking at the deepest evil: targeting those who have no one to protect them, no social power to defend themselves. These three groups—widows, foreigners, orphans—appear over and over in Scripture as the litmus test of a society's character.

The law God gave Israel specifically protected these groups. Harming them violated the most basic covenant obligations. Prophets like Amos and Isaiah repeatedly denounced this exact sin as the reason God would judge nations.
The oppressors' cruelty reaches its nadir in the systematic murder of the most defenseless members of society—widows, foreigners, and orphans.
These three categories—אַלְמָנוֹת (almanot, widows), גֵּרִים (gerim, sojourners), and יְתוֹמִים (yetomim, orphans)—constitute what scholars call the 'Deuteronomic triad' of vulnerable persons. Deuteronomy repeatedly instructs protection of these groups (10:18, 14:29, 24:17-22). Their slaughter is not incidental violence but symptomatic of a complete social collapse where covenantal obligation has evaporated. The use of 'kill' (יִשְׁמְטוּ, yishmetu) and 'murder' (יָהוּ, yahu) employs different terms to suggest both casual elimination and deliberate execution.
The psalmist escalates the accusation, moving from abstract oppression to concrete atrocities that violate the most basic human protections.
This recalls the prophetic indictments of Isaiah 1:17-23 and Jeremiah 7:6, where similar language condemns those who shed innocent blood. It also prefigures the teaching of James 1:27, where pure religion is defined as caring for orphans and widows.
