The Bible uses warrior imagery for God when talking about His justice. It's not pleasant, but it's reassuring if you're innocent and terrifying if you're guilty.

The progression from verse 12 to 13 shows escalating divine preparation: from sharpening and stringing to the final readiness of 'deadly weapons' (kli mevet, כלי מות). The phrase 'ordains His arrows with fire' (yetzav et-chitzyav et-doletim, יצו את־חצציו את־דולתים) employs the root צו (tzaw, 'to ordain/command'), suggesting God's sovereign direction of judgment itself. Fire imagery pervades theophanic texts—it denotes both divine presence and purification through destruction (Deuteronomy 4:24, Hebrews 12:29). The accumulation of martial imagery creates a crescendo: God moves from anger (v. 11) to preparation (v. 12) to final readiness (v. 13).

This violent imagery of divine judgment reaches its most extreme form in Revelation's depiction of Christ as warrior-judge (Revelation 19:11-21), yet it is always undergirded by the covenant logic that justice serves redemption, not mere destruction.
