The servant with two bags did the same thing and also doubled his money. He had less to start with, but he was just as faithful, and the result was just as impressive proportionally.

Why it's here

This is so encouraging. God doesn't compare you to someone with more gifts. He looks at what you did with what you were given. Faithfulness is measured by percentage, not by total.

You don't need five talents to please God. Two will do. One will do. What matters is that you do something with what you've been given.

The scholarly reading

The two-talent servant 'likewise' (hōsautōs) gains two more. The word 'likewise' (hōsautōs) is crucial: proportional faithfulness receives equal commendation. The percentage return (100%) is identical to the five-talent servant's. God measures faithfulness by proportion, not by absolute quantity.

Language and setting

This parallel outcome demonstrates that God evaluates stewardship relative to what was given, not on an absolute scale. Both servants receive identical praise (v. 21, 23).

Significance

The two-talent servant follows the same pattern and achieves the same proportional result. Smaller capacity, identical faithfulness, equal reward.
