It was nine o'clock in the morning when they crucified Jesus.
Mark gives you the exact time so you can picture it. While people were going about their morning routines, the Son of God was being nailed to a cross.
Mark notes the time of day.
Nine in the morning. People were heading to the temple, opening their shops, starting their day. And on a hill just outside the city, everything was changing.
Mark specifies the hora trite (third hour, approximately 9:00 AM) as the time of crucifixion, providing a chronological framework for the passion events.
This conflicts with John 19:14 which says 'about the sixth hour.' Scholars debate whether different timekeeping systems or approximations account for the discrepancy.
The narrator provides the precise time marker for the crucifixion.
At nine in the morning, while Jerusalem prepares for its daily activities, Jesus is nailed to the cross. Mark anchors this cosmic event in ordinary time.
