And they crucified Him. Mark 15:24 · Berean Standard Bible
They nail Jesus to the cross. Then they divide up His clothes among themselves by rolling dice for them.
A psalm written a thousand years earlier described this exact scene: soldiers gambling for the Messiah's garments. Every detail of this day was foretold.
Mark records the crucifixion with devastating simplicity.
Mark doesn't linger on the horror. Three words: 'they crucified Him.' While the Son of God hangs dying, soldiers gamble for His clothes at the foot of the cross.
Jesus is crucified, and the soldiers diamerizontai (divide) His himatia (garments) by casting kleros (lots), fulfilling Psalm 22:18.
Soldiers were entitled to the condemned prisoner's possessions. The lot-casting for garments directly fulfills the messianic Psalm 22, which Jesus will quote from the cross.
The narrator records the crucifixion and division of garments in characteristically sparse Markan style.
Mark states the crucifixion with stark brevity. The soldiers gambling for Jesus' clothes fulfills David's prophetic psalm, written a thousand years before crucifixion was even invented.
22They brought Jesus to a place called Golgotha, which means The Place of the Skull.
23There they offered Him wine mixed with myrrh, but He did not take it.
24And they crucified Him.
25It was the third hour when they crucified Him.
26And the charge inscribed against Him read:
