The scholarly reading

After the voice, Jesus was found monos ('alone'), and the disciples kept silent (esigēsan), reporting ouden ('nothing') of what they had seen en ekeinais tais hēmerais ('in those days'). Their voluntary silence complements Jesus' earlier command to secrecy.

Language and setting

The disciples' silence about the Transfiguration contrasts with Peter's earlier talkativeness. Luke notes their silence was 'in those days,' implying they eventually spoke about it later (cf. 2 Peter 1:16-18). The event remained a private revelation until after the Resurrection.

34While Peter was speaking, a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
