Jesus gathered the Twelve and gave them power and authority over every demon and the ability to heal diseases. He was entrusting His own mission to them.
After watching Jesus calm storms, cast out demons, and raise the dead, it was their turn. He did not just tell them about the kingdom; He gave them the power to advance it.
Jesus empowers and commissions His twelve disciples.
Jesus called His twelve closest followers together and handed them something extraordinary: His own power and authority over evil and sickness. They were about to step into His mission.
Jesus synkalesamenos ('called together') the Twelve and gave them dynamin kai exousian ('power and authority') over all daimonia ('demons') and to cure nosous ('diseases'). The dual grant of dynamis (inherent power) and exousia (delegated authority) equips them for an extension of His own ministry.
This commissioning follows the three-chapter demonstration of Jesus' own power over nature, demons, disease, and death (chapters 7-8). The Twelve now receive delegated authority to replicate His ministry, marking a pivotal expansion of the kingdom's advance.
