The scholarly reading

The thorn-soil hearers are choked by merimna (anxieties), ploutos (riches), and hēdonai (pleasures) of bios (this life), so their fruit ou telesphorousin ('does not mature/reach completion'). The rare verb telesphorein appears only here in the NT.
