The phrase aphentes panta ("leaving everything") marks total renunciation — boats, nets, the miraculous catch, and livelihood. This radical response fulfills the pattern of prophetic call narratives.

Language and setting

The abandonment of the unprecedented catch is particularly striking; they leave behind the very blessing that revealed Jesus' identity.

Significance

The disciples' response is immediate and total. They don't negotiate, delay, or arrange their affairs. The miraculous catch, ironically, becomes the thing they leave behind to follow the one who provided it.

10and so were his partners James and John, the sons of Zebedee.

11And when they had brought their boats ashore, they left everything and followed Him.

12While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell facedown and begged Him, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”

13Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” He said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.
