They still could barely believe it — not because of doubt, but because of pure joy and amazement. Then Jesus asked, 'Do you have anything here to eat?'
Have you ever been so happy you couldn't believe it was real? That's exactly where the disciples were. And Jesus anchored the moment with the most ordinary request — food.
Luke describes their overwhelmed joy, then Jesus asks a beautifully ordinary question.
Too good to be true — that's what they were feeling. So Jesus did the most normal thing possible: He asked for a snack. The risen Lord still sits down for a meal.
The disciples experience a paradoxical state of disbelief mingled with joy and amazement (Greek: apistountōn autōn apo tēs charas kai thaumazontōn), and Jesus asks for food.
The phrase 'disbelieving from joy' captures the psychological reality of an experience too good to be true. Jesus' request for food further demonstrates the physical reality of His resurrection.
