The language of 'handing over' (paredōkan) is the same term used throughout the passion narratives and echoes the Suffering Servant of Isaiah 53 who was 'handed over' for transgressions.

Their narrative focuses on the human agents of Jesus' death — the religious authorities — reflecting the raw political and religious betrayal they experienced.
