The Last Night
“Where do You want us to prepare it?” they asked. Luke 22:9 · Berean Standard Bible
Peter and John simply ask, 'Where do You want us to set this up?' They have no idea Jesus is about to give them supernaturally precise directions.
This ordinary question leads to an extraordinary answer that shows Jesus knows exactly what's happening, even in the details.
The disciples respond with ready willingness, not knowing they're about to witness Jesus' remarkable foreknowledge.
It's such a normal question — 'Where should we go?' But Jesus' answer will be anything but normal. He's about to describe a scene they haven't seen yet with perfect accuracy, reminding them that nothing about this night is out of His control.
Peter and John ask 'Pou theleis hetoimasōmen?' (Where do You want us to prepare?). The question reveals they had no predetermined location, making Jesus' detailed foreknowledge in the following verses all the more remarkable.
The secrecy around the location may have been deliberate — keeping the venue unknown even to the disciples prevented Judas from arranging an early arrest.
Peter and John respond obediently to Jesus' command, asking the practical question of location.
The disciples' simple question sets up one of the most striking displays of Jesus' supernatural foreknowledge. They have no idea where they're going, but Jesus does — and His instructions will prove accurate down to the last detail.
7Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb was to be sacrificed.
8Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.”
9“Where do You want us to prepare it?” they asked.
10He answered, “When you enter the city, a man carrying a jug of water will meet you. Follow him to the house he enters,
11and say to the owner of that house, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?’
