The scholarly reading

Jesus commands 'Eate heōs toutou!' (Stop! No more of this!) and then hēpsato tou ōtiou (touched the ear) and healed (iasato) it. This healing — unique to Luke — is Jesus' final miracle before the crucifixion and the only recorded healing of a wound inflicted by a disciple.

Language and setting

The healing serves multiple purposes: it reverses the violence, demonstrates Jesus' character even under arrest, and removes any legal justification for retaliating against the disciples.
