Jesus is in such anguish that His sweat falls like drops of blood — a real medical condition caused by extreme stress. His suffering is beyond anything we can fully comprehend.

This is how much your salvation cost. Jesus prays so intensely, with such anguish over what He's about to endure, that His body starts breaking down. His sweat turns blood-red. Whatever the cross held, it was so terrible that facing it nearly broke Him — and He did it for you.
In agōnia (agony — a term used for intense athletic or emotional struggle), Jesus prays ektenesteron (more earnestly/intensely). His sweat becomes hōsei thromboi haimatos (like drops of blood) — possibly describing hematidrosis, a rare medical condition where blood seeps through sweat glands under extreme stress.
Luke the physician uniquely records this medical detail. Hematidrosis occurs under extreme psychological distress, medically validating the intensity of Jesus' anguish. This verse, like verse 43, is textually debated but widely accepted.
