Then Jesus went home with His parents and was obedient to them. And Mary kept all these things carefully stored in her heart.
Even though Jesus knew He was God's Son, He went home and honored His parents. His obedience in the small things prepared Him for the great things ahead.
Luke wraps up this story with a picture of humble obedience and a mother's faithful reflection.
The Son of God goes home and does His chores, obeys His parents, lives a quiet life. And Mary watches it all, turning every moment over in her heart, sensing that the full story is still unfolding.
Jesus returns to Nazareth and lives in obedience (hypotassomenos) to His parents. Mary continues to treasure (dietērei) these things in her heart, building on the pattern from 2:19.
Jesus' submission to His parents despite His divine consciousness demonstrates the full humanity of the incarnation. The verb hypotassō ('to submit/order under') emphasizes voluntary obedience.
