Two women are grinding grain together — one is taken and the other left. It happens right in the middle of everyday life.
Whether it's night or day, at rest or at work, the moment of Jesus's return will find people wherever they are — and separate them.
Jesus adds another everyday scene to drive home the point: readiness matters every moment.
Day or night, work or rest — the moment of judgment doesn't wait. It comes in the middle of normal, and it changes everything.
A second separation scenario: two women grinding grain at a hand mill — an everyday domestic activity. Again, one is taken and one left. The daytime setting complements the nighttime scene of v.34.
The combination of night (v.34) and day (v.35) scenarios indicates the parousia's unpredictability — it could happen at any time and will divide people in every context of daily life.
Jesus provides another illustration of the same principle, using a daytime domestic scene to complement the nighttime scene.
