The Son of Man's coming will be like 'lightning' (astrapē) that illuminates the entire sky instantaneously. The imagery emphasizes universality, suddenness, and unmistakability — no one will need to be told it happened.

Language and setting

Lightning imagery for divine theophany appears in the OT (Ezek 1:13-14, Dan 10:6). The point is total visibility — unlike false messiahs who must be sought out, the Son of Man's appearance will be self-evident.
