Faith Like a Mustard Seed
When Jesus saw them, He said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they were on their way, they were cleansed. Luke 17:14 · Berean Standard Bible
Jesus tells them: 'Go show yourselves to the priests.' And as they obey and start walking, they're healed. The miracle happens in the middle of their obedience.
They had to trust Jesus before they could see the results. The healing came not before they obeyed, but while they obeyed.
Jesus gives a simple command that requires enormous faith — go, before you see the healing.
They start walking while still sick. And somewhere on the road, it happens — the disease disappears. Obedience came first; the miracle followed.
Jesus commands them to show themselves to the priests — the legally prescribed step for certifying healing (Lev 14:1-32). Remarkably, healing occurs 'as they were on their way' (en tō hypagein autous), requiring faith in action before visible results.
The command to go to the priests presupposes healing, testing their faith — they must obey before they see the cure. The cleansing en route mirrors Naaman's healing in the Jordan (2 Kings 5:14).
Jesus speaks a command that requires faith-filled obedience, sending them to the priest before healing has occurred.
Jesus doesn't touch them or pray over them — He simply says, 'Go show yourselves to the priests.' And as they walk in obedience, the healing happens.
12As He entered one of the villages, He was met by ten lepers. They stood at a distance
13and raised their voices, shouting, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
14When Jesus saw them, He said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they were on their way, they were cleansed.
15When one of them saw that he was healed, he came back, praising God in a loud voice.
16He fell facedown at Jesus’ feet in thanksgiving to Him—and he was a Samaritan.
