The scholarly reading

When the whole body (holon to sōma) is full of light with no dark part (mē echon meros ti skoteinon), the result is total radiance -- phōteinon holon, like a lamp's bright ray (astrapē). Complete inner illumination produces unmistakable outward brilliance.

Language and setting

This positive vision contrasts the preceding warnings about darkness. Jesus describes the goal of spiritual life: complete transparency to divine light, where no shadow of duplicity remains.
