Jesus corrects their focus: plēn mē chairete ('nevertheless do not rejoice') that spirits submit, but chairete hoti ta onomata hymōn engegraptai en tois ouranois ('rejoice that your names are written in heaven'). The perfect passive engegraptai indicates names permanently inscribed, suggesting the heavenly book of life (Exodus 32:32, Daniel 12:1, Revelation 20:12).
