Mary sings, 'The Mighty God has done amazing things for me. His name is holy.'
She doesn't take any credit. Everything amazing in her life is because God is mighty and good. That's the posture of true worship: giving all the glory to God.
Mary praises God's power and holiness.
All she can do is point to God. The amazing things in her life aren't about her. They're about a powerful, holy God who does incredible things for ordinary people.
Mary praises ho dunatos (the Mighty One) for doing megala (great things) for her, and declares hagion to onoma autou (holy is His name).
The title 'the Mighty One' (ho dunatos) recalls God's mighty acts in the Exodus. The holiness of God's name is a foundational doxological theme (cf. Psalm 111:9).
Mary praises God's mighty power and holy character.
Mary attributes everything to God's power and holiness, not her own merit. The great things done for her are extensions of God's character, not rewards for hers.
47and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior!
48For He has looked with favor on the humble state of His servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed.
49For the Mighty One has done great things for me. Holy is His name.
