The Careful Account
The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God. Luke 1:35 · Berean Standard Bible
The angel explains, 'The Holy Spirit will come over you, and God's power will surround you like a shadow. So your holy child will be called the Son of God.'
The same word for God's glory 'overshadowing' the tabernacle is used here. God's presence is going to dwell in Mary the way it once dwelt in the holy tent in the wilderness.
Gabriel explains how the miracle will happen.
God Himself will do this through His Spirit. No human effort, no natural explanation. Pure divine power creating life where there was no possibility of life.
Gabriel explains that the Pneuma Hagion (Holy Spirit) will come upon her and the dunamis Hypsistou (power of the Most High) will episkiasei (overshadow) her, and the holy child will be called Huios Theou (Son of God).
Episkiazo (overshadow) evokes the Shekinah cloud over the tabernacle (Exodus 40:35). The conception is attributed to the Holy Spirit's creative power, not physical union, preserving the miraculous nature.
Gabriel explains the divine mechanism of the virgin conception.
The Holy Spirit will accomplish what nature cannot. The same divine power that hovered over creation (Genesis 1:2) and filled the tabernacle will now bring about the incarnation.

34“How can this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”
