The scholarly reading

Jesus makes a direct accusation: ouk egnōkate auton (you have not known Him), while asserting egō oida auton (I know Him). He adds that denying this knowledge would make Him a liar (pseustēs) like them, a term that echoes verse 44's father of lies.

Language and setting

The contrast between egnōkate (experiential knowledge, perfect tense) and oida (intimate, intuitive knowledge) highlights the difference between their claimed relationship and Jesus' actual relationship with the Father.
