Jesus delivers the climactic declaration: ean oun ho Huios humas eleutherōsē, ontōs eleutheroi esesthe (if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed/truly free), making Himself the exclusive agent of genuine liberation.

Language and setting

The adverb ontōs (indeed/truly/really) distinguishes the Son's liberation from all counterfeits. Only the Son, who is a permanent member of the household, has the authority to grant permanent freedom to slaves.
