The scholarly reading

Jesus specifies the condition for receiving eternal life: theōreō (to look upon with contemplative perception) the Son and pisteuō (to believe/trust) in Him, with the repeated promise of resurrection at the last day.

Language and setting

This verse parallels verse 39 but shifts from the Father's sovereign will to the human response of faith, holding divine sovereignty and human responsibility in tension.

Jesus speaks, concluding this section of the discourse by connecting the Father's will with the individual's act of believing.

Significance
