The Empty Tomb
Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in. And he saw and believed. John 20:8 · Berean Standard Bible
Then John goes in too. He sees everything Peter saw, and he believes. Right there, standing in an empty tomb, faith is born.
John sees the same evidence and something clicks. He doesn't need an angel or a vision—the empty wrappings and the folded face cloth tell the story. Jesus is risen.
John describes his own moment of belief.
John steps inside, looks at the same cloths, the same rolled-up face covering—and he gets it. Faith lights up in the darkness of an empty tomb. He believes.

The progression 'he saw and believed' (eiden kai episteusen) marks the climactic moment. The Greek 'eiden' here implies perceptive seeing that leads to understanding. The beloved disciple moves from observation to faith through the physical evidence alone.
